Dredging of Oregon's only open water port begins July 19, 2007 with the arrival of the derrick barge Sea Horse. The derrick or crane is outfitted with a huge clamshell bucket that can move large amounts of material on land or in the sea. Sand will be moved from the dock area to the other side of the jetty in the dump scow Lummi Island towed by the tug Terri L Brusco. Filling the scow takes four to five hours. Dredging will proceed around the clock until July 23rd or the job is completed.
